PROFILE

About Amadu Wurie Barrie

Amadu Wurie Barrie is a Lecturer and Admissions Data Manager in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Makeni (UniMak). In this dual role, he contributes to teaching and student mentorship while also managing admissions data, maintaining records, and supporting academic planning and decision making within the university. He previously served as IT Support Staff at the University, giving him a strong grounding in the institution's systems and digital operations before moving into his current academic role. He teaches Systems Analysis and Design and Academic Writing to Computer Science students and has taught Data Quality Management for the Certificate in Health Data Management programme. His teaching emphasises practical, real-world application, encouraging students to move beyond theory and connect what they learn to genuine problems facing organisations and communities in Sierra Leone, whether that means analysing a live software platform, writing a research proposal, or working through a health data case study grounded in local health facility data. Alongside his academic role, he currently serves as a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer with DIG International Group Ltd, supporting the FG Gold project in Baomahun. There, he promotes a safe and compliant work environment by identifying hazards, conducting inspections, and delivering hazard awareness and safety training, while applying his technology background to digitize HSE processes and improve how safety data is documented and tracked. His research interests span human-computer interaction, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and occupational health & safety, with a particular focus on digitising HSE systems and developing intelligent, cloud-based software solutions for real-world challenges. Grounded in his MBA in Global Impact Entrepreneurship, he is also passionate about impact entrepreneurship, mentoring future computing professionals, and applying emerging technology to practical problems in Sierra Leone and beyond.
